SUMMARY
The International Conference of Innovation in Media and Visual Design (IMDES) is a biennial conference initiated by the Visual Communication Design Program of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN). Since its first edition in 2020, IMDES has grown into a respected platform that bridges academia and industry, fostering discussions around design thinking, visual culture, sustainability, communication strategies, and emerging media.
The first IMDES, held virtually in 2020, successfully brought together participants from various national and international institutions. The second edition, in 2023, was held in a hybrid format in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in collaboration with ASWARA, expanding the event's reach and collaborative nature.
IMDES 2025, the third edition, will take place from 30 to 31 July 2025 at the National Art Gallery Langkawi, Malaysia, and introduces an exciting new feature: the Artwork Exhibition. This component recognizes creative research in the form of design artifacts, interactive installations, and digital media, reinforcing IMDES's commitment to inclusive research dissemination and the evolving landscape of design scholarship.
IMDES continues to welcome keynote speakers, researchers, and creative practitioners from diverse backgrounds, building a strong network of collaborators and thought leaders. In today's global design context, IMDES Academic remains highly relevant, encouraging interdisciplinary approaches and cross-cultural perspectives.
Whether attending in person or following the outcomes online, IMDES offers an open space for presenting, publishing, and celebrating innovative design ideas—making it a hub for collaboration, reflection, and inspiration in media and visual design.
