The International Council of Design’s journal on design research is about breaking boundaries and offering a global take on the future of design. The first iteration, Icographic, was published by Icograda in 1971. Edited by Patrick Wallis Burke, it was coined the “prism on design research” and produced 14 issues. Iridescent was born out of the Council’s strategic aim to develop communication design education by merging the interdisciplinary facets of theory, practice and research. Initiated by Russell Kennedy and edited by Omar Vulpinari, this limited edition work was printed by Fabrica. Communication Design: Interdisciplinary and Graphic Design Research is the final face of the journal. Edited by Teal Triggs and published in partnership with Routledge (Taylor & Francis Group), Communication Design explores new directions of contemporary design practice and research.
