The Council is pleased to announce the Member Event 2022 International Busan Design Award (ibda) executed by the Design Council Busan to revitalize the design industry in connection with the platform for the realization and commercialization of ideas. The award ceremony will be held on 09 June, 2022, as the main event of Busan Design Week, and the exhibition will be held from 09 to 12 June, submit by 02 May, 2022

The International Busan Design Award(ibda) is an international event developed and based on the former Busan Industrial Design Exhibition since 1981. It is used as a forum for sharing various design concepts through international design industry exchanges and restorations. It is the largest international design award in the region, jointly hosted by Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education, and Design Council Busan, and it is organized by Design Council Busan, to revitalize the design industry in connection with the platform for the realization and commercialization of ideas.

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Previously known as Busan Design Exhibition, International Busan Design Award(ibda) has been held for the forth time as an international design competition since 2019. By sharing various design concepts and linking platforms to realize and commercialize creative ideas, the International Busan Design Award is becoming an open place for the global design industry. The event is co-hosted by the Busan Metropolitan City, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, and the Design Council Busan.

Entries are eligible for elementary school, middle school, and high school student(s) or the youth preparing for university (Student department), and college student(s), the general public, and organization (general department) with 2 or fewer pieces.

Entry fees for the student department and the general public, including university students, are free. The entry fee for organizations is KRW100,000 per piece, and payment will be made when submitting the entry. (credit card only)

The fields of entry are communication and service design, product design, and environmental design including public design, craft, and fashion design(free theme).

The judges of the award are openly recruited through the award website(we are hiring design experts with more than 10 years of relevant experience in the design field), and the judges will be announced before each screening by the established random selection program. The total prize money is 40Million Korean Won, and the ibda Grand winner will be granted 15Million Korean Won.

In addition, we are opening a supplemental award for promoting World Expo Busan 2030 this year, separated by the 2022 International Busan Design Award. We highly promote the creative designs that contain effective promotional content of the World EXPO BUSAN 2030 and reflect the values of the EXPO (education, innovation, and cooperation) as well as its global interests and future-oriented movement.

- Applicable designs include, but not limited to: architectural designs of the pavilion of World EXPO 2030, environmental designs to improve the landscape of Busan, new design of BI for Busan Metropolitan City, design of BI for World EXPO, character designs, World EXPO's promotional posters/webtoons/videos, etc.
- Note: Special Theme designs are reviewed separately from IBDA designs. Number of prizes and prize classification are subject to change in accordance with the overall number of entries and relevant winning criteria.

The award ceremony will be held on 09 June, 2022, as the main event of Busan Design Week (9–12 June), and the exhibition is scheduled to be held from  9 to 12 June, 2022, at the BEXCO Exhibition CenterⅠ, Busan, South Korea.


*Busan Design Week (BDW) is the largest exhibition specializing in design in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam provinces, to improve the global market competitiveness of the design industry and expand cooperative channels through industries, schools, and government organizations, co-hosted by Design House Co., Ltd., KNN, and Design Council Busan.
