Works carried out by students usually disappear into drawers, where the work remains invisible. :output, the international competition for students in design and architecture, wants to change that.

The call for entries for the 2009 international competition for students in design and architecture is now open. Deadline for submissions is 15 February 2009.

Eligibility

Any current communication design, product design, architecture, interaction design or film student at a university or a college is eligible to participate. Students who have graduated within the last 12 months may also submit final degree works.

Any work that has been produced as a student project is eligible for submission. The work may not be older than one year. The project does not have to be published. Work related to any area of design and architecture is eligible for submission, such as: graphic design, architecture, product design, typography, photography, illustration, typeface design, multimedia, moving image and television graphics and experience design.

Awards

The winner of the :output Grand Prix will be awarded a scholarship of 3.000 Euro (about $4,500). With this scholarship :output wants to foster talented young blood designers and also present the high quality of the work which is done at design colleges and art schools to a broader public.

Presented as part of the competition :output in cooperation with the Sternberg Foundation,  the Print Creativity Award winner will receive a scholarship of 3.000 Euro. This prize targets works that explore new possibilities of working with print media, such as concepts that cross the borders of print technology and connect to other media.

Additionally the Sternberg Foundation will grant up to four scholarships worth 500 Euro for projects to receive an honorary distinction.

:output yearbook

The selected works will be published in the yearbook :output, publishing the works of the best students in design from all over the world covering communication design, architecture, products, interaction design, moving image and photography.

Jury

All winning works are selected by an international jury of renowned designers and educators. The jury meeting will be held in March/April 2009 in Amsterdam.

The jury will appoint the winner of the :output Gold Award and nominate the winner of the Print Creativity Award (who will be appointed by the board of trustees of the Steinberg Foundation).

Latest date for submissions is 15 February 2009 (date of postage).

Submission

Students must register submissions in the online registration (no matter what format the project is) - there is no offline registration anymore.

Entry fee per work: 25 Euro

:output is a non-profit organisation in Amsterdam. The goal of the foundation is to support young talents and provide a platform for the exchange of ideas on design education and the design profession.
