ICoD is pleased to announce the Member Event Design City | Building an Innovation Ecosystem Symposium organised and hosted by ICoD MemberDeakin Universityand The City of Greater Geelong, UNESCO City of Design. This Member Event will be held in Geelong and Melbourne (Australia) 18-19 March 2020. 

ABOUT

The first of its kind in Australia, Design City | Innovation Ecosystem Symposium, hosted by Deakin University and the City of Greater Geelong—Australia’s only designated UNESCO City of Design—brings together business leaders, governance bodies and research and educational institutions to explore the role of Design and Creativity in driving innovation from an ecosystem perspective.

The Symposium aims to introduce the concept of a “Design-Enabled Innovation Ecosystem” and will explore the value of DESIGN, both as a process and as a methodology. Participants will be inspired by some of the world’s most renowned Design and System Thinkers and engage in a highly interactive and dialogue-driven environment filled with panel discussions, engaging case-studies and keynotes providing unbridled access to best practices, valuable insights, tools and techniques.

SCHEDULE 

DAY 1: RE-WIRING | New collaborative models and value chains
Translating a great idea to have transformative sustainable impact relies on the coordinated and collaborative efforts of business, governance and the education sector to develop, test, and scale innovation.

The morning session will feature keynote presentations showcasing government supported initiatives (from UK and Netherlands), models and funding programmes connecting Research, Science, Technology, Businesses and Design/Creative Practices for cross-sector innovation and impact. This will be followed by a moderated Q/A session with the two keynotes, with audience participation.

Afternoon Sessions will feature 5 short ("lightening") presentations, from representatives of Government, Businesses, and Research Institutions, from Australia, reflecting on and sharing their individual experiences as ecosystem actors in their respective roles and sectors, through introductions to new funding mechanisms, new ways of working, new frameworks, new services, shared challenges and opportunities. The presentations will be followed by an interactive panel discussion with audience participation in conversation with the speakers.DAY 2: RE-FRAMING | Cultivating the necessary skills, methods and mind-sets

New approaches to re-frame our thinking and cultivate the necessary skills, tools, technologies, mind-sets and methods to support and sustain trans-disciplinary innovation.

Morning session will feature keynote presentations will focus will be on new educational and knowledge production methods, new methods of reframing trans-disciplinary problems and challenges, and new tools/technologies to aid co-design and co-creation across disciplines/sectors. This will be followed by a moderated Q/A session with the two keynotes, with audience participation.

Afternoon Sessions will feature 5 short ("lightening") presentations, from ecosystem actors representative of (but not limited to) R&D teams of companies, educators, researchers, and other advocate groups and institutions, sharing their approaches, models and new programmes, towards Design enabled sustainable value across the actors of their respective ecosystems. The presentations will be followed by an interactive panel discussion with audience participation in conversation with the speakers.
