JURORS 

 

Gianluca Camillini (Italy)
He is an Italian designer, researcher and educator.
After having gained his BA and MA degrees at ISIA Urbino, he worked for several years for award-winning graphic design agencies and international clients. Since September 2013 he works as a researcher and aggregate professor in graphic design at the Faculty of Design and Art - Free University of Bolzano/ Bozen. He is currently completing a Ph.D. in typography and graphic communication
at the University of Reading. Since 2015 he has been a council member and director of the education department of AIAP, Italian Association of Visual Communication Design. In 2018, he was nominated co-editor of Progetto Grafico, international graphic
design magazine.

Bettina Schulz (Germany)
She has been editor-in-chief of the international journal novum - World of Graphic Design since 2001. She joined the editorial staff of the magazine in 1994. Mrs Schulz also works as a freelance writer and editor for national and international magazines and for a range of clients in different sectors. Bettina Schulz already serves on a
number of design juries (e.g. red dot communication design award, MfG competition of the Bundesverband Druck, Monaco de Luxe Packaging Award, Canon Pro Fashion Award, Adobe Photoshop Award and the twice-yearly diploma awards presentation at the U5 Academy) and is co-founder of the “Creative Paper
Conference” in Munich.

Peter Bankov (Russia)
Peter Bankov was born in Minsk, but now lives between Moscow and Prague. He graduated from the Minsk Art College in 1988 and the Moscow State Polygraph Institute in 1993. He is the creator and editor-in-chief of [kAk) magazine, one of the key points of reference for Russian graphic design. Peter is also the founder and creative director of Design Depot in Moscow. He has received numerous international awards and has been a panel member for many contests around the
world. His art projects are part of private collections in Moscow, London and Beijing. He is the author and presenter of a cycle of lectures on design, and lectures in Russia, the CIS and Europe.

Beatriz San Roman (Spain)
Born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1969, Beatriz San Román graduated from the Information Sciences department of Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She became a scriptwriter and theme installations designer and has been a journalist in Visual, Spain's premier communication design magazine, since 1990. At the same time, she collaborates with different media as a freelance writer.

Veronica Mike Solheim (Norway)
Veronica Mike Solheim is a Norwegian creative and Editor-in-chief, working at one of Norway’s most award winning design agencies, Anti in Oslo, Norway. She was awarded Blogger of the Year 2013 and started at Anti in February 2014, where she founded A New Type of Imprint — a magazine celebrating the creative community of Norway.
Mike was born on the west coast of Norway in 1990 and has an Art
Direction Bachelor from Westerdals ACT, where she graduated June 2014.

Sarah Snaith (UK)
Canadian-born writer, editor and lecturer Sarah Snaith has worked for Eye, the international review of graphic design, in various roles since 2012. She is currently the assistant editor of both Eye magazine and Pulp, the quarterly journal of people and paper made for Italian paper company Fedrigoni (launched in 2014). Originally a dancer, Snaith has an MA in Design Writing Criticism from the University of the Arts London (UAL), and a BA in Design from The Cass School of Art and Architecture. She teaches Contextual & Historical Studies in the School of Communication at the Royal College of Art. Other teaching duties have included teaching Contextual & Theoretical Studies at London College of Communication, workshops for the Emre Senan Design Foundation (Turkey), London Metropolitan University, Design History Society, University of Reading and University of Hertfordshire.
In addition to her Eye activities she has written for Creative Review,
MagCulture, MidCentury, Gym Class and YouCanNow; and is an associate of Ken Garland with his imprint Pudkin Books.

 

Brigitte Willinger (Austria)
Brigitte Willinger has done editorial work for designaustria, the professional association of Austrian designers, since 1992 and since 2004 has been editor-in-chief of the organisation’s periodical, designaustria mitteilungen, which showcases the Austrian design scene and the association’s activities. She studied languages (German, English, French) and art history and is a freelance editor, author, journalist, and translator based in Vienna, with a focus on design, art, architecture, and the humanities, working for design organisations, museums, art publishers, galleries, cultural and academic institutions, and private scholars.
For several years she organised the Joseph Binder Award, an international competition for graphic design and illustration, when it was first launched by designaustria in 1996. She has published numerous articles on design and is the author of the book Henry Steiner – Bridging East and West, which was published in 2017 and has just been translated into Chinese.

Rene Wawrzkiewicz (Poland)
Graphic designer, researcher and design curator
Rene Wawrzkiewicz is active in what is broadly understood as the field of visual communication, beginning with trademarks, diagrams and infographics, through publications and informational printed materials, to the building of complex systems of visual ID. He specialises in designs for social, political and cultural projects. He is currently collaborating with the Centre for Social Communication in Warsaw, Amnesty International Poland, the MamPrawoWiedzieã.pl and NGO.pl websites, the Bæc Zmiana Foundation, the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute, various theatres (including Nowy Theatre in Warsaw and Polski Theatre in Bielsko-Biaùa) and the “Poýar w Burdelu” cabaret. Rene is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, a co-creator of MamaStudio (2001) and a co-founder of the Association of Applied Graphic Designers (STGU) (2004). Together with design critic Agata Szydùowska, he founded the Design Critique Platform in 2014, the first think-tank in Poland devoted to design culture in Central and Eastern Europe. He is a lecturer in the Communication Design programme in the School of Form at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Poznañ.

Raphaël Verona (Switzerland)
He studied Graphic and type design at ECAL / University of Art and Design Lausanne, Switzerland, graduating with an award for researches and applications in typeface design and typography. He has worked for Swatch, Mercedes-Benz and Musée de l'Elysée Lausanne. He is a professor at Eracom Lausanne—école romande d'arts et communication Typography / Type design, while at the same time he has been contributing to IDPURE éditions Books and publications since 2011, as an art director and editor.

Arja Karhumaa (Finland)
She is a graphic designer and teacher with a strong interest in design
research, writing and critical practice, as well as 15 years of professional experience in design. A former board member of the Grafia association, she is now a part of the editorial board and a regular contributor to Grafia magazine. She has participated in several design competition juries in Finland, including the national Best of the Year Competition. She teaches graphic design at Aalto University School of Art and Design in Helsinki and has also given
workshops internationally. She runs her own design studio based in Helsinki, concentrating on publication design and visual identities, mainly for clients in the culture sector.
