A Thinking Company in partnership with the (Victorian Branch) proudly presents the impending launch of the Melbourne Design Awards (MDA), the first city in the inaugural City Design Awards project.

The MDA is the only design awards recognising a broad range of design categories open to design professionals, students and those that commission design.

The awards are cross-disciplinary, celebrating and honouring the role of design and the skills of designers around the planet, while recognising all aspects of the design process.

The aim of the Melbourne Design Awards is to:

  • Celebrate those who produce excellent design works.
  • Celebrate those who sponsor, fund or commission design projects.
  • Promote and encourage participation and conversation in all aspects of design.

Call for entries

The awards are open to any designer, design company, commissioner of design or student provided that they are active in the Melbourne market:
  • Art Directors
  • Creative Directors
  • Architects
  • Interior Designers & Decorators
  • Textile Designers
  • Graphic Designers
  • Illustrators
  • Brand Managers
  • Product Managers
  • Event Producers
  • Product Designers & Engineers
  • Students

Entries are submitted online and reviewed by a panel of industry peers to ensure they meet the entry criteria.

Once an entry has been deemed valid it will be made open for public and peer viewing, comment and voting.

EXTENDED Deadline for entries: 28 November 2010

Voting

The voting process will consist of two stages:

Stage One   
Design public and design peer voting to determine the category finalists
1 December 2010 - 22 January 2011

Stage Two
Design peer voting to determine the category winners
23 January - 13 February 2011

The voting will be weighted according to the following scale:
Design public – 1 vote
Design peers* – 5 points

*Design peers are members of the DIA or other supporting design organisations and other entrants of the MDA.

Announcement of winners

The entrant in each category with the highest number of combined votes Stage One and Two will be awarded the winner.

The Melbourne Design Awards will reward and recognise over 50 categories of design excellence and achievement and will culminate in the Best of Awards.

Winners will be announced at the Melbourne Design Awards Evening on 8 December 2010 and will be promoted via a professional publicity campaign designed to attract local and national recognition.
