About Fabrica
Fabrica is the communication research centre financed by the Benetton Group. It was founded in 1994 by Luciano Benetton and Oliviero Toscani with the aim of combining culture with industry. It offers young designers from around the world an opportunity for creative growth and multicultural exchange. The centre is located in Italy, near Venice, in Villa Pastega Manera, an ancient seventeenth century villa restored and expanded by Tadao Ando.
Fabrica is grant-based and offers one-year residencies providing a unique education/practice/research opportunity along with a wealth of resources and relations. The residents develop cultural and social communication projects in the areas of design, visual communication, photography, interaction, video, music and publishing under the guidance of international experts.
The centre's aim is to inspire a specific creative category of "social catalysts" that at the end of their residency, will continue in this mission.
