ICoD is pleased to announce the Member Event X International Eco-poster Triennial «the 4th Block» Organised by The Ukranian Graphic Designers Association. The Graphic Designs Association the 4th Block to be held 24 April - 13 May 2018 (Exhibition) with activities extending to 28 May 2018.   

The Ukranian Graphic Designers Association "the 4Block" in collaboration with other companies is has organised the X International Triennial of the Ecological Poster "the 4th Block" for its 26th year, celebrating its 10th anniversary.

 

X International Triennial "the 4th Block" includes artists from many countries all over the world, whom, once every three years, present the latest achievements of ecological poster art. The triennial has a special social orientation aimed to address urgent, current issues. Its name derives from the blast of the 4th block of the nuclear reactor of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Since 1991, the triennial has been held in Kharkiv, evolving over the years into a festival of artistic-ecological actions, which have garnered supporters in Ukraine and far beyond its borders. Every three years, new entrants are invited to participate in the triennial. Following the poster exhibition and with the consent of the authors, posters enter the permanent collection of the triennial are exhibited in various cities of Ukraine and abroad. The X International Trienn?al, «the 4th Block» collection presently holds 10,000 posters from 46 countries of the world.

 
2018 Concept: Women, Children, Cats! and Data
 
This triennal concept deals with the troubled and often tragic relationship between humans and nature as we strive to see and feel the world’s ecology through the eyes of a woman, mother, and guardian. The inspiration for the X International Eco-Poster Triennial «the 4th Block» are beauty, peace, purity, love, creativity and contemplation with the  focus of the poster call on: Women - giving life, bringing peace and creation; Children - the future and hope; and Cats)))—as a symbol of a positive attitude towards living nature and all its creatures.
 
Categories for submissions
 
(1) WOMEN / PEACE
Posters dedicated to peace as a necessary condition for the life of a human being. Peace and ecology are essential parts of a harmonic world. It’s a basic needed for every society to develop and to create something beautiful in the end.
 
We don’t want war – we want peace!
 
(2) CHILDREN / HOPE
Posters dedicated to children as the future of humankind. Posters introducing eco-thinking to a young audience, and posters encouraging adults to care.
 
(3) CATS + LOVE!
Posters reflecting the beauty of the surrounding world, humanity and kindness, as a call for coexistence with all species and the development of a caring attitude to all creatures in nature and to those living in urban spaces of modern habitats.
 
(4) ART OF DATA (Special project) 
For the first time during the triennial there will be held a 48-hour «Hackathon». Designers and IT specialists are invited to create joint projects on environmental and social issues that address the interaction between humans and nature, citizens and the urban environment.
 
At the exhibition, works traditionally printed on paper as well as animated posters will be accepted (electronic files designed for displaying via media-Internet, plasma screens, projector).
 
All designers can participate in the triennial without any restrictions, but only world famous women designers are invited to be part of the international jury and selection committee.
 
 
Submission guidelines
 
1st stage: E-mail work files (size: 30 cm in the big side, 300 dpi, EPS, TIFF, JPEG, RGB color model) and filled-in enteric form by e-mail: association4block@gmail.com
 
2nd stage: Lists of selected works will be published on the site http://4block-design.org/, about which the authors of these posters will be additionally announced by e-mail. After that, printed copies of the works and the filled in originals of the entry form will need to be sent by post.
 
Notes
 
Printing technique is open. Minimum size 60 x 90 cm.
 
The period of creation of works must be between 2015-2017.
 
Eligible to participate: individual authors, as well as creative teams
can take part in the competition. The number of exhibited works is not limited.
 
Participation in the triennial is free.
 
Results will be announced on 26 April 2018
 
All provided submissions intended for participation in the Triennial are kept in the Museum of the Association of Graphic Designers and are not subject to resale

Selection procedures
 
1 / the members of the selection committee receive posters on personal mail from the allocated independent moderator;
2 / the members of the selection committee independently from each other, confidentially select the work for the exhibition, assessing the professional level and the correspondence of the submitted works to the declared theme of the triennial. Also, the selection committee ensures that there are no violations of ethical, moral and religious norms in the posters;
3 / for the preservation of confidentiality, selected works are exhibited at the exhibition under personal numbers;
4 / The jury examines each work, its advantages and disadvantages are discussed collegially, a vote is taken and the best posters are determined by a majority vote;
5 / After the announcement of the results, authorship of all works is disclosed.
