POSITION SUMMARY

The College of The Arts is seeking an interdisciplinary Designer/Artist who maintains an active research agenda spanning the College’s four academic schools: Theatre and Dance, Music, Art and Art History, and Architecture, and may also collaborate with other College entities like the Contemporary Art Museum, the Center for Community Design and Research and Graphicstudio, as well as other parts of the University. The professional practice of a successful candidate can span a wide variety of endeavours ranging from Sound and Projection Design to conceptual and virtual art, to performance. Artistic endeavours could include live performance, recording, editing, and creating media not limited to music/sound, video, film, animation, stage design, and implementing software designs and entrepreneurial practices. This person will teach in areas of their expertise and practice and will develop a cross-disciplinary curriculum available to a variety of graduate and undergraduate students. A portion of the assigned load may be to execute design projects for College performances and/or exhibitions.

This 9-month, full-time, tenure track position, of open rank, will contribute to the research, teaching, and service missions of the University of South Florida and the College of The Arts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Performance/Media Designer/Artist will maintain a scholarly and/or creative research portfolio at a national and international level and will teach classes and mentor students across disciplines, introducing and utilizing various technologies and methods to realize theoretical projects, live performances, and immersive interactive installations. Creative content may be developed through music/sound, recording, video, film, animation, computer graphics, robotics, internet art, biotechnology, etc. The ideal candidate will incorporate theory and practice in a global context into their teaching and research. A portion of the assigned teaching and research load may involve collaboration on design projects for College of The Arts performances and/or interactive art installations and may be asked to serve on University and College of The Arts committees and contribute to meetings, auditions, and recruitment activities. 

Minimum Qualifications: Terminal degree in an area related to any of the four disciplines mentioned above or equivalent professional experience, demonstrated artistic achievement in media arts, knowledge and ability to teach and mentor students and artists, and the ability to utilize technologies and processes in the creation of new media works. 

Preferred Qualifications: Professional experience in one or more artistic disciplines, teaching experience at the collegiate level including undergraduate and graduate student mentorship, and/or architectural consulting experience.
