Icograda announces Icograda Education Network Conference speakers

Montreal (Canada) - Icograda is pleased to announce its presenters for the Icograda Education Network (IEN) Conference that will take place on 29-30 October, at the in Beijing, China.
The IEN Conference brings together the worldwide community of communication design educational institutions during the Congress. This two-day event will include invited and refereed papers. The top 50 selected papers will be published in book form and on the Icograda website following the event.
Prof. Helmut Langer (Germany) has created many multicultural and global communication projects of international signification, e.g. for several UN organisations. Helmut has received many prizes and awards at international competitions. From 1987 to 1993, Helmut has served as President and member of the board of Icograda. Since many years he is a juror at international competitions and a speaker at international conventions.
Dr. Paula DiMarco (United States) is a design educator and researcher with an interest in social awareness and sustainability in the design of visual culture. Dr. D (as her students call her) is a professor in communication design, at California State University, Northridge, United States. Dr. D has been a design educator for over 15 years in design education. As a design consultant and co- principle of Roadwork Design Associates, she has won awards for her work in editorial design and non-profit branding projects from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
Lawrence Zeegen (United Kingdom) is Head of the School of Communication Design, Kingston University, London where he leads undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography and Filmmaking. Zeegen has lectured, spoken at conferences, institutions and design events and worked as design educational consultant and examiner across 17 countries internationally.
Deborah Alden (Singapore) is an Assistant Professor of Visual Communication in the School of Art, Design and Media at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. Deborah's diverse portfolio includes clients such as Time Warner, NASA, US Department of State, Portland Development Commission and Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts. Prior to joining NTU, Deborah was a Visual Information Specialist at the Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of the American Indian in New York.
Ann McDonald, Audra Buck-Coleman and Mark Biddle (United States)
Ann McDonald is an Assistant Professor at Northeastern University in Boston, United States, where she teaches in the Graphic Design and Multimedia Studies programs. She focuses on educational interactive projects with social relevance that can best be achieved through interdisciplinary collaboration.
Audra Buck-Coleman is an Assistant Professor of Design at the University of Maryland, College Park, United States. Over the course of her professional career, Buck-Coleman has written, art directed, curated, designed, authored, and directed numerous design projects, including Sticks + Stones, an international multi-university collaborative that investigates labeling and stereotyping in graphic design.
Mark Biddle is currently a Professor of Art, at Weber State University, in Ogden, Utah, where he has served as department chair and coordinator of the visual communication program. His professional work, for clients in both the public and private sectors, has won awards at regional and national levels.
Emma Jefferies, Dr. Joyce Yee and Kathryn McKelvey (United Kingdom)
Emma's interest lies with the investigation of strategies to foster students' visual literacy and self-knowledge, which began during her Degree in Multimedia Design at Northumbria (2003) and lead to the pursuit of the PhD which she is currently completing. Her PhD research investigated ways to facilitate and evaluate students' visual practices in design education.
Joyce is a practicing designer, researcher and lecturer in visual communication at Northumbria University in the United Kingdom. She is interested in the areas of developing design-specific research methods, particularly human-centred research methods for design process and developing a knowledge-based approach to graphic design education in view of emergent media.
Kathryn is a Reader in the School of Design at Northumbria University, Newcastle. She teaches visual communication, graphics and interactive media but fashion remains the key area for her own research. She worked in the fashion prediction industry in New York, as an illustrator/designer, before commencing an academic career.
Ian McArthur, Karin Watson and Simon McIntyre (Australia)
In 2003/2004 Ian McArthur initiated the COLLABOR8 Project to foster multidisciplinary projects online between design education programs in different institutions, and specifically across different cultures. Having over 25 years experience as designer and design educationalist, Ian McArthur has held leadership roles in vocational and higher education in Australia and South East Asia.
Karin Watson is an architect with a Bachelor of Architectural Studies Degree (University of Cape Town), and a Bachelor of Architecture degree (First Class Honours, University of New South Wales (UNSW)). She was Associate Director of a national architectural company before forming her own practice in 1997. Karin has lectured at UNSW since 2003 and has experience teaching in face-to-face, fully online and blended learning environments.
Simon McIntyre has drawn together educators, researchers, and creative professionals to research the development and design of sustainable and effective online art and design learning programs. His continuing research into online education in art and design has culminated in the co-development and supervision of the world's first fully online international postgraduate art and design degree for COFA - the Master of Cross-Disciplinary Art & Design.
Eric Ligon and Michele Wong (United States)
Eric Ligon is the program coordinator for the communication design program at the University of North Texas, in which he teaches the full array of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He is president and cofounder of BrailleInk, a non-profit organisation that produces dual-use, braille and print children's books in his patented format that encourages sighted and blind individuals to share reading time.
Mich?le Wong Kung Fong is an Assistant professor in communication design at the University of North Texas. She recently graduated with a Master's in Graphic Design from North Carolina State University. Her applied research investigates the intersection of interactive media, information design, cognition and learning style theories.
Dr. Antoine Abi Aad (Lebanon) completed his DES in Advertising in 2000 at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts, ALBA then traveled to Japan in 2001. He holds a Ph.D. in Comprehensive Human Sciences, Art and design, in the University of Tsukuba and a degree of Master of Arts in Visual Communication Design in 2004. He is now a lecturer and a coordinator in ALBA and teaches adverting design as a part timer in Lebanese American University.
Dr. Elizabeth (Dori) Tunstall (Australia) is an Associate Professor of Design Anthropology and Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching at Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia. She is a leader in the field of Design Anthropology: a field seeking to understand how the processes and artifacts of design help define what it means to be human. Dori has taught at University of Illinois at Chicago and worked for Sapient Corporation and Arc Worldwide.

Anne Ghory-Goodman (United States) is a Professor at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Last year, her posters were exhibited in Havana, Cuba and Lima, Peru. She was awarded Fellowships for both Photography and Design Arts, by the National Endowment for the Arts.
