Montreal (Canada) - The (Icsid) is currently inviting all Icsid Member organisations to nominate exceptional industrial design led projects and initiatives that exemplify progress, impact and social responsibility in design for the inaugural World Design Impact Prize. Established by Icsid with the intention of showcasing and supporting responsible design projects, the World Design Impact Prize also aspires to stimulate projects that have the potential to enhance the social, cultural, economic and/or environmental quality of life in communities around the globe.

Beginning 22 February until 10 May at www.worlddesignimpact.org, all Icsid Member organisations are encouraged to submit nominations for design projects and initiatives they believe deserve to be honoured with the World Design Impact Prize. This is an opportunity for Icsid Members to support socially responsible design projects by helping them achieve the recognition and exposure necessary to realising their potential of creating a better world through design.

On 29 June, World Industrial Design Day, an online gallery of all the design projects nominated for the World Design Impact Prize will be unveiled on the website for the public to view, critique, rate and share throughout their networks. On 29 July, one month following the opening of the project gallery, official Icsid Member voting will begin to determine the winner of the inaugural World Design Impact Prize.

The World Design Impact Prize honours industrial design driven projects and initiatives that use design to make a positive impact on our social, economic, cultural and/or environmental quality of life, reflecting Icsid's vision statement. Prize entries should be industrial design driven projects involved in socially responsible design, such as local efforts where positive change is created through community or civilian participation in the issues that affect them.

Nominated projects should demonstrate the following:
  • Responsible Design: Support Icsid's vision to create a better world through design
  • Innovation: Highlight the expanded field of industrial design in the 21st century
  • Progress: Potential to help promote the advancement of design on a world stage
  • Impact: Be able to provide evidence of causing a significant positive impact on the community of interest
