ACCOMPLISHED VENEZUELAN DESIGNER AT ICOGRADA REGIONAL DESIGN SEMINAR

Brussels (Belgium) - Juan Carlos Darias presented the state of design in Venezuela at the 'Design in Latin America' Icograda Regional Design Seminar in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on 28 April 2004. Darias has extensive experience as an academic director and instructor, publications director, graphic design consultant and researcher of Venezuelan graphic design. Darias shared his expertise and design perspectives along with presenters from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico and Peru.
Juan Carlos Darias has been practising as a graphic designer since 1987, holding positions as managing Director of Magazine Clips, Arts Director for Popder Joven Magazine, and Writer and Art Director for Logotipos design magazine. Has been commissioned for design projects involving catalogues, booklets and magazines for the Sheraton Hotel chain, La Rinconada Art Museum and AVAP Gallery (Venezuelan Association of Fine Artists). Since 1989, Darias has held several academic positions. He is currently the Academic Directors Chair at Instituto Diseno DARIAS design school and special courses extension instructor at Universidad Simon Bolivar. He is a member of the Venezuelan Association of Fine Artists, as well as honorary member and consultant to COIDIGRA, the International Design Congress in Merida, Venezuela.

During this one-day seminar, designers from all over Latin America gave visual presentations of graphic design works and new design trends from their respective countries. Participants discovered provocative, experimental and cutting-edge designs from established and upcoming Latin American designers. The seminar was one of several events organised by Icograda and ADG-Brazil during the Icograda Design Week in Sao Paulo, Brazil (23-30 April 2004).
