Montreal (Canada) - The Icograda Education Network (IEN) is pleased to introduce a new initiative, Iridescent, the Icograda Journal of Design Research. In keeping with IcogradaÂ’s strategic aim to support the development of communication design education (theory, practice, and research), Iridescent will be an online international research journal advancing IcogradaÂ’s goals and objectives and fulfilling the vision of the Icograda Education Manifesto.

Objectives of Iridescent
  • To offer an international peer-reviewed publishing platform for innovative research with a specific focus on issues of relevance to contemporary communication design and curriculum development;
  • To promote research that advances Icograda's aims and objectives;
  • To facilitate collaboration between professional associations, promotional bodies, corporate members and education institutions within the Icograda network.

Publication frequency
Papers will be reviewed as received and published online continually. All papers published will be collected and distributed to the delegates of each Icograda General Assembly on a biennial basis. Papers published in the two-year period between General Assemblies will constitute a volume.

Nominations to the Editorial Board
Icograda is inviting nominations for members of the Iridescent Editorial Board. To serve on the Editorial Board, an individual must be a member of an Icograda member organisation or institution. Three Members will be chosen for the Editorial Board to serve a two-year appointment on a volunteer basis. The Editorial Board will be responsible for the overall management as well as establishing any themes of Iridescent.

Nominations for the Editorial Board will end on 30 June 2009.

Nominations to the Editorial Advisory Panel
Icograda is inviting nominations for referees to serve on the Iridescent Editorial Advisory Panel. Members the Editorial Advisory Panel will have the opportunity to evaluate current and emerging work in their area of expertise and to be acknowledged as international leaders in promoting the standard of design research. Nominees may cite their membership in the panel as part of their academic or professional development requirements. Members chosen for the Editorial Advisory Panel will serve a two-year appointment on a volunteer basis and are expected to referee a maximum of eight articles within their two-year term.

Nominations for the Editorial Advisory Panel will end on 31 July 2009.

Initial review process
The Iridescent Editorial Board will review all papers submitted for consideration and may reject any paper that is contrary to Icograda's aims and objectives, has serious research flaws, or is demonstrably not original work. Papers that pass this first stage will be circulated to at least three members of the Editorial Advisory Panel for review.

Peer review process
Iridescent will follow a double blind review process where referees and authors remain anonymous throughout the review. Three referees will be selected based on their expertise in the subject of the paper submitted. International diversity will be considered when choosing referees. Where there is no expertise within the Editorial Advisory Panel, the Editorial Board may invite outside experts to review papers submitted.
