ICoD is pleased to welcome new Member Applied Science University (ASU) (Bahrain) a leading educational institution and Department of Design and Art in the Kingdom of Bahrain. .
In 2004 Applied Science University became one of the first private universities in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Since 2013, ASU sits on a 24,000 sq. meters campus designed to provide a stimulating, high-tech and community-focused working environment for students, including design studios, lecture halls, computer labs, language and specialised laboratories, as well as a high-tech library. The College of Arts and Science was established at the ASU in 2005/2006 and has three departments, including the Department of Design and Art with Interior Design and Graphic Design programmes. ASU strives to become one of the leading universities in the Kingdom of Bahrain and in the Gulf region, ranking 1st Private University in Bahrain and 22nd in the Arab World in the QS Arab Region Universities Rankings.

The College of Arts and Science seeks to achieve a high status amongst national, regional, and international educational institutions via the spread of knowledge and skills to enrich the lives of individuals and contribute towards a comprehensive sustainable development for the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Gulf region. The mission of the college is to deliver a high level of education by offering a variety of information technology and applied arts educational programmes in order to meet the needs of local and regional communities contributing to economic and social development and developing responsible students. The college also seeks to create a motivating environment for research and creative thinking to develop human capital and encourage collaboration with higher education institutions within the Kingdom of Bahrain and abroad.
The Department of Design and Arts offers a range of facilities, state-of-the art drawing and design labs and other computerised facilities, and design students acquire both practical and theoretical skills working with both artists and highly reputed instructors. The Bachelor degree in Graphic Design provides students with knowledge and skills related to graphic design and visual communication design, working with concepts and theories through various graphic works and projects. The qualification comprises 135 credit hours offered over eight academic semesters and is delivered in Arabic by the College of Arts and Science - Department of Design and Arts.

The Bachelor in Interior Design provides students with knowledge and skills related to interior design, through the acquisition of interior design basics and principles, historical contexts, design theories, focusing the relationship between individuals and their environments and how this impacts behaviours, with the goal of designing healthy and stimulating environments. The qualification comprises 132 credit hours offered over eight academic semesters and is delivered in Arabic by the College of Arts and Science - Department of Design and Arts.
The ICoD Executive Board provisionally accepted the membership application of Applied Science University on 22 April 2021. The ASU joins a global community of design organisations and institutions, who jointly determine Council strategy, policy and governance through the General Assembly.
