Charleroi (Belgium) - 'Design: So what and who cares? Fostering continuous professional and business development' is the title of the white book published by European Design Training Incubator (EDTI) Partners as a conclusion of the first phase of the European Design Training Incubator project. This publication is specifically dedicated to design-related stakeholders: policy makers in education and training, educational institutions, educators, Continuous Professional Development providers, trainers, design and business support organisations.

During two years EDTI Partners have benchmarked, audited and researched the Continuous Professional Development related to design. The white book gathers major findings and recommendations to stakeholders to foster prosperity in the design sector and in the European economy at large.

The 'Design: So What and Who cares' publication summaries the findings and outcomes of two years of research and benchmarking. It includes recommendations on how to move forwards to the benefits of all those involved in or with the design industry.

This publication is available for free download on EDTI website in the resource area of the EDTI website.

About the European Design Training Incubator

The 'European Design Training Incubator' (EDTI) is an EU network project within the Leonardo da Vinci programme. EDTI covers the whole range of learning focused on professional practice in design.

By benchmarking design education and training in the context of the lifelong learning, the core idea behind EDTI is to establish a common European platform where design-related organisations can audit existing training provision, identify needs and share and coordinate training development and its implementation.

Under the coordination of 'design innovation', the six partners were chosen because of their specific expertise in the field, they are 'design innovation', (Belgium), designkunst (Germany), Business Support Center for SMEs – Ruse (Bulgaria), Cirtes (France), Estonian Design Centre (Estonia), Gray's School of Art, the Robert Gordon University (United Kingdom).

The vision of EDTI is to support the creative industries in Europe through design training and education.

About the EDTI

The European Design Training Incubator (EDTI) began as a 24-month project with 6 partners from Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. It has been funded and supported by the EU Lifelong Learning Programme, Leonardo da Vinci.

At the heart of the EDTI project is the belief that there is much to be done in terms of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to improve the employability of designers and to foster the use of design as an economic driver. Unfortunately, no organisation has sufficient resources to achieve what needs to be done on its own.

The six founding partners from six different backgrounds came together and agreed to set up a collaborative platform to foster exchange, share resources and benchmark Lifelong Learning in a wide variety of design-related areas.
