Vancouver (Canada) - Graphex is Canada's biennial National design awards. An Icograda-endorsed event, Graphex has been celebrating the best of visual communications in Canada since 1977.

Every two years Graphex invites the community of communication designers, web designers, typographers, photographers, illustrators, art directors, ad agencies, printers, writers and clients from across Canada to submit their best published cultural, social and business communications - in all mediums. The deadline for submissions to has been extended until 25 January 2010.

Presented by the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC), the primary goal of Graphex is to promote the value of design to the Canadian public and business community at large, to celebrate the best in the industry and to create an archive of Canadian design for future generations. The 2010 winning entries will reflect the best work from CanadaÂ’s communication design professionals over the past two years.

A panel of five distinguished authorities on communication design arrive in Vancouver to launch and judge Graphex 2010 Awards. On Friday, 5 February 2010 there will be a Judges' lecture and debate with audience participation. This year's panel includes: Julia Hoffman, Louise Fili, Mark Randall, Matt Warburton and Rolando Diep.

Entries will be judged between 6-7 February and selected finalists notified by email on or before mid- March. Winners be announced on 29 April at a special event held at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre as part of the closing ceremonies of Design Currency: Icograda Design Week in Vancouver.

Graphex 2010 is open to all Canadians, with discounts given to professional members of design associations such as GDC, (Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario) and SGDQ (Société des Designers Graphiques du Québec). All submissions are accompanied by an explanation of the design criteria stating the challenges or requirements of the project and the rationale for the design solution to be eligible.

At the conclusion of the competition phase, a traveling exhibit of the winners tours Canada showcasing the work to the public.

The GDC has been Canada's professional association for visual communications since 1956. The GDC has nine regional chapters, and two affiliates - the Société des Designers Graphiques du Québec and the University & College Designers Association.
