Montreal (Quebec) - The Icograda Education Network (IEN) had the pleasure of welcoming two new members from Russia into its fold this week: The Stroganov Moscow State University of Design and Applied Arts and the British Higher School of Art and Design.

Founded in 1825 by the count Sergei Stroganov, The Stroganov Moscow State University of Design and Applied Arts is the oldest school of industrial and applied art in Russia. It became a public institution in 1918 and boasted some very famous professors, including Vassily Kadinsky, Kasimir Malevich. After receiving its status as a university in 1996 it became a multidisciplinary institution offering undergraduate and graduate courses in the theory and practice of graphic and industrial design. It currently counts approximately 195 full-time students. The IEN liaison is Alexander Lavrentiev and he can be reached at strog1232@mtu-net.ru

The British Higher School of Art and Design, on the other hand, is a private institution offering training in graphic design, illustration, interior/spatial design and product design. Students have the option of receiving a 'Professional Development Education' in one to two years or a Bachelor of Arts Degree in three to four years. IEN Membership is open to all educational institutions offering graphic design and visual communication study programmes of minimum 2 years' duration. In addition to providing networking opportunities, the IEN offers online communication tools to promote the research, curricula, events and initiatives of member schools. Universities, colleges and institutes around the world are invited to join this growing network and advance the state of graphic design education worldwide.
