Montreal (Quebec) - The awards ceremony for the 2010 Grafika competition took place at Metropolis last night. The prize winners will be showcased in the new and revised Infopresse magazine, unveiled during the evening's events.

The design agency Sid Lee and Cohesion Strategies won the Grand Prize in 2010 for the new "green" positioning of the Societe de Transport de Montreal. In awarding the Grand Prize in 2010, the highest award of the evening, the jury announced that it was seduced by this major project: the viral-style logo - seen in its many variations adorning bus shelters, the subway and the bus system - covers the Montreal landscape while also transforming this large public corporation into a cause that unites citizens.

Chaired by Sylvain Allard, new program director of Graphic Design at UQAM, the jury also awarded a special prize, Coup de coeur 2010, to Paprika for the visual identity of the event "Aires libres 2009". Transformed into a pedestrian promenade during the summer, rue Sainte-Catherine had the air of an alley way under the studio's artistic direction.

Many other studios and agencies were also honored during the evening, attended by over 800 people. Of more than 800 pieces in competition, 100 were selected by the jury in 33 categories.

The Society of Graphic Designers of Quebec (SDGQ) took an opportunity in the evening to present a special award to the customer of the year. It awarded the brand Periphere the Lorne C. Perry prize for its exceptional attention to graphic design.

The results of this 13th edition of the competition Grafika, which awards the best annual achievements in Quebec graphic design, are published in the new Infopresse magazine, on newsstands from 12 February 2010.

The launch of Infopresse

The newly launched Infopresse magazine now address the topics covered so far by Grafika magazine, namely branding, design and related fields, such as photography, architecture and commercial design. "It seems logical and necessary in the current context to combine in a single product, the tools that enable companies to manage their communications," writes Bruno Walter, president and publisher of Editions Infopresse in his introduction entitled 'Reinventing'. "We are launching this publication as Infopresse celebrates its 25 anniversary. We take this anniversary year to make the necessary changes so as to continue to reflect the reality of the communications environment."

An environment where, says he, the recent economic crisis has only accelerated the substantive changes and revolutionised the way we work, manage and even embrace the future and reality. "What is particularly interesting in a business like Infopresse is that we are directly concerned by the events we cover. And an emerging reality: we all play now on common ground. Whether an advertiser, agency or media, there is more certainty", says Bruno Walter. "The companies and brands must reinvent themselves deeply to continue to grow. (...) We have never stopped saying that one must reinvent oneself, this is what we are doing."

The mission remains the same: to be the link between communications professionals in Quebec and to ensure the influence of industry here and abroad. This is now accomplished both through a magazine, websites, contests and events that meet all of the fundamental role of media: providing relevant content in a neutral and unbiased environment.

"We continue to listen, adapt and improve what we do," says Bruno Walter. "We hope this new Infopresse will meet your expectations, both in content and in form. We welcome your comments."
