PRESIDENTS DESIGN AWARD WINNERS AT SINGAPORE CASA IN TORINO

Singapore - DesignSingapore Council is presenting an exhibition of winning works from the President's Design Award 2006 and 2007 as part of the Singapore Casa in the city of Torino, the first World Design Capital.
The Singapore Casa is a part of the International Design Casa, where 11 countries, three of which are from Asia, have been invited to showcase their design thinking and understanding of design. The work is on display from 6-13 November 2008.
The International Design Casa aims to bring a better understanding of how culture is expressed in other parts of the world to Torino and Italy. The presentations also take an in-depth look at design as an instrument for communicating identity and values, and as a strategy for developing new economic paths.
In line with the theme of the International Design Casa, the PresidentÂ’s Design Award acknowledges the ability of Singapore designers to develop unique and iconic products.
The award encourages design excellence that improves the quality of life, and is presented to individuals and designs in disciplines such as Architecture & Urban Design; Exhibition Design; Fashion Design; Interior Design; Landscape Design; Product & Industrial Design and Visual Communications.
Through this exhibition, Singapore will highlight the significant achievements and contributions of the city-stateÂ’s best design talents.
“The presentation of the Singapore President’s Design Award at the International Design Casa gives us an opportunity to share our passion for good design with an international audience. We are very pleased to participate in this design discourse by offering visitors a taste of our design capabilities and what Singapore has to offer. We hope that this will not only generate greater understanding of Singapore design, but also encourage more international design collaborations,” said Dr. Milton Tan, Director, DesignSingapore Council.
The recipients of the PresidentÂ’s Design Award 2008 will be announced in Singapore on 1st December 2008.
