Istanbul (Turkey) - In his presentation at the Icograda Building Bridges seminar, Tagir Safayev will speak about his experiences as a type designer and about the peculiarities of cyrillic letterforms. Tagir s presentation will trace the development of type design in Russia through his work in ParaType and his own work produced over the past ten years.

Tagir Safayev is a Russian type and graphic designer. Tagir created more than one hundred fonts including PT Freeset (1991-2000), LEF Grotesque (1999), ITC Kabel Cyr. (1993), FF Meta+ Cyr. (2000), ITC New Baskerville Cyr. (1993), ITC Officina Sans Cyr., ITC Officina Serif Cyr. (1995), ITC Stenberg (1993), Swift-2 Cyr. (2002), PT Yanus (1999).

He received a Certificate of Excellence in Type Design from TDC for Mirra in 2000 and for Serp and Molot in BukvaRaz (ATypI) in 2001. He is a senior lecturer and course coordinator of Graphic Design at the Higher Academic of School of Graphic Design, Moscow.

Tagir will also participate in the '6 Alfabe' student workshop where he will initiate the student to the cyrillic alphabet.

About the Icograda Design Week in Istanbul:
The two-day 'Building Bridges' seminar is part of the Icograda Design Week in Istanbul (Turkey), from 27 to 31 January 2004.
Held on 30 and 31 January, this seminar is free of charge but registration is requested. Seats will be given on a 'first come, first served' basis. It will bring together designers from Australia, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, China (Hong Kong), Denmark, Great Britain, Greece, Iran, Israel, Lebanon, Russia, South Korea and Turkey to share their experiences and influences from their own regions. The seminar will showcase new perspectives on the diversity of graphic design today.

About the '6 Alfabe' student seminar
Hosted by the Istanbul Bilgi University in Istanbul (Turkey) the '6 Alfabe' student workshop will be held from 27 to 29 January 2004.

'6 Alfabe' means 6 alphabets in Turkish. Students will explore six writing systems and alphabets: the Roman, Hangul (South Korea), Arabic, Hebrew, Cyrillic and Devnagari (Hindi) alphabets.

The workshop will be conducted by 9 experts in graphic design and typograpy:
