Upcoming: IDC, IIT Bombay hosts 'Designing for Children'

Mumbai (India) - The international conference 'Designing for Children' is just around the corner. To be held in Mumbai, India, from 2-6 February 2010, 'Designing for Children' is hosted by the Industrial Design Centre (IDC), at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Mumbai.

This event is an invitation to be a part of a series of events concerned with designing for children with focus on 'play' and 'learn'. The major events during the week are:

Design Education Meet (2 February 2010)
International Design Conference (3-5 February 2010)
Exhibition of projects on Â‘Design for ChildrenÂ’ (2-6 February 2010)

The Educational Meet

In February 2009, a National meet on introducing 'Design and Innovation' in school curriculum was held at IDC, IIT Bombay. The resulting report offered a set of recommendations with regard to curriculum, methods of learning design and modalities for implementing this proposal.

This report is being submitted as a set of recommendations to the Ministry of Human Resources and Development and to the various directorates of school education.

The 2010 national roundtable meeting will discuss pedagogic issues about 'Designing for Children' and intends to bring focus on issues connected with the topic. This could be through curriculum and content development for introducing 'Designing for Children' as a specialisation in design schools.

Participants include faculty members in charge of the academic programs from design and decision makers in different school directorates and others working in the field of Children's environment.

International conference

This international event is aimed at exchange of viewpoints, deliberations and discussions concerning design and research issues related to children. The event is expected to throw light on the role of designing for children as related to design of objects, media and environment with focus on 'play + learn'.

Exhibition

This exhibition intends to showcase innovative and interesting projects that have been designed with concern for children. The focus is on design of objects, media and environment for children with focus on 'play and learn'.
