Hong Kong (China) - Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) has unveiled Business of Design Week (bodw) 2007, one of the largest annual design gatherings in the world. Now in its sixth year, bodw is one of the most anticipated events on the international calendar for those in creative and business fields keen to unleash the power of design. Italy is the partner country for bodw 2007, which takes place from 10-15 December at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. Speakers include venerated designers, Tom Dixon and Marc Newson, Italian maestros Mario Bellini, Massimiliano Fuksas, Michele De Lucchi, Massimo Iosa Ghini, and Ernesto Gismondi, and groundbreaking Asian innovators Fumie Shibata and Tony Suppattranont.

Iconic designers, business leaders and educators
Touted as "one of the world's most unique and compelling design-related programmes," bodw 2007 will attract over 40,000 participants and 100 speakers, including the world's most iconic designers, business leaders and educators, who attend bodw to exchange ideas and network in this annual event none can afford to miss. The goal of bodw 2007 is to help industry leverage the potential of design by focusing on the vital relationship and complex interplay between business and design.

"bodw attracts the best of the global design industry to Hong Kong, bringing together an unrivaled gathering of prominent international and local designers as well as creative personalities to showcase the importance of design and design thinking in business and public services," said Allan Chiang, CEO, Hong Kong Design Centre. "There's no other opportunity to rub shoulders with so many of the world's creative elite and foremost designers, to exchange ideas, share experiences and explore the future of design on an international platform."

Italy - partner country for bodw 2007
With Italy as the partner country for bodw 2007, over ten of its supreme designers will assemble at this remarkable event, the largest concentration outside of their home country, to unveil the secrets of Italian design's mastery, craftsmanship and modern inspiration. Acclaimed international and Asian speakers will join them to inspire audiences in four categories: mobility and design; brands and design; products, technology and design; and communication design and branding.

"It is a special honour for Italy to be able to partner with HKDC and showcase our greatest designers in Hong Kong. Very seldom, outside of Italy, are so many of our top creative minds coming together for one event," said Marco Maria Cerbo, Deputy Consul General of Italy in Hong Kong. "Between world recognised masters such as Alberto Meda and Mario Bellini, and the excellence of companies such as Ducati and Kartell, this is truly the best of Italian design."

"Business of Design Week recognises and promotes the value of design in business, both in Asia and around the world, which is why we are so excited to display our best designers and companies here," further explained Romano Baruzzi, the Trade Commissioner of Italy in Hong Kong. "Italy is a natural fit with bodw, as it has a long history of using superior and innovative design as a winning business strategy, resulting in some of the world's most well-known brands and companies."

New programme additions
The week-long programme features bodw forum, the most important design conference in Asia, which gathers 30 top international designers as speakers, as well as the HKDC Annual Award Gala Dinner - an all-star event considered the highlight of the week - and an astonishing array of prestigious outreach programmes, concurrent
conferences and exhibitions, including a new programme addition - I.P. Asia, an intellectual management symposium.

The essence of bodw is further exemplified by this year's 'Project 9707,' which provides a unique example of the dynamism between design and business. In one of the project's programmes, ten prestigious international brands pair up with ten
accomplished Hong Kong designers to produce various creative products, proving Hong Kong's world-class talent to be truly deserving of global attention and investment.
