Oslo (Norway) - On Friday, 23 September 2005 designers from around the world will have the opportunity to explore the challenges and issues related to incorporating social responsibility into their design solutions. Hosted by the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and The Oslo School of Architecture and Design, three featured seminars: 'Borders of your Profession' , 'Borders of your World' and 'Design for All' will be run as parallel sessions on the second day of the Pre-World Design Congress festivities in Oslo, Norway.

The 'Borders of your Profession' seminar will explore and demonstrate how designers can collaborate with people from different industries in order to foster a more holistic approach to addressing social and global concerns. This seminar aims at encouraging designers to challenge the borders between professions and to foster the practice of inter-professional collaboration and problem-solving. Moderated by Jorn Jontvedt, a senior designer at Making Waves in Norway, this seminar will feature presentations from an architectural, sustainable development, marketing, and graphic design view point. 'Borders of your World' explores the theme of social responsibility from yet another angle by exploring the challenges of inter-cultural collaboration among designers. Moderated by the rector of the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, Peter Butenschon, this seminar features issues like grass roots design and sustainable development, design as social intervention in Guatemala, and the relationship between cultural aesthetics and design in Africa. Moderated by Simon Clatworthy of the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, this seminar will focus on the issues of inclusive and universal design. A mini-exhibition of products demonstrating universal qualities will be held in conjunction with the actual seminar. For more information visit: http://www.norskdesign.no
