Montreal (Canada) - The 65 winning projects from design firms across Canada will be opening in Montreal on 1 May 2006. Entitled Graphex 06, the show is Canada's biennial national awards of excellence in communication design. The awards are organised by the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) and were first held in 1977.

The 2006 winning pieces were selected by an international panel of judges from more than 600 submissions. The judges were:
- Rick Poyner, London (United Kingdom)
- Min Wang, Beijing (China)
- Debbie Millman, New York (United States)
- Tan Le, Seattle (United States)
- Robert Sarner, Toronto (Canada)

Awards of Merit were presented in the Annual Report, Book, Brochure, Catalogue, Corporate Identity, Editorial/Magazine, Environmental, Invitation, Logo, Packaging, Poster, Self Promotion, Advertising, Website and Other categories. Awards of Excellence were presented for Book, Brochure, Calagoue, Poster, Editorial, Environmental, Invitation, Self Promotion, Advertising, Website and Other categories. In addition, individual judges each made a selection for recognition.

Included with the exhibition is 25 50 anniversary commemorative posters by GDC Fellows. This year marks the GDC's 50 anniversary.

The exhibition is being hosted in Montreal by the Institute of Design (IDM) and it will be open daily from 1 May through 15 June. It is being presented with the support the Societe des Designers Graphique du Quebec (SDGQ).
