Vancouver (Canada) - The winners of , an Icograda endorsed event organised by the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC), are now online. Winners can be viewed on the Graphex 2008 website. The catalogue of the winners is also available and can be purchased through the GDC store.

The exhibit of winners began its tour across Canada with a showing in April at the HSBC Pendulum Gallery at Georgia and Hornby in Vancouver. The exhibit was also be shown in Vancouver at Roundhouse in Yaletown in May as part of the Salazar Student Awards (featuring keynote speaker Stefan Sagmeister) and mini design conference in conjunction with Kwantlen University CollegeÂ’s GDMA graduation activities.

Attendees of the 2008 Graphex Gala Awards Ceremony on 28 March 2008 were treated to an evening of glamour, inspiration and fun as they gathered to celebrate the very best Canadian communication designers and their work.

Design studios from Quebec, particularly Paprika, orangetango and Identica were undoubtedly the big winners of the evening and although submissions from all parts of the country were honoured, including BCÂ’s own Rethink and Hangar 18, the judges noted that much of the work from Quebec excelled in terms of conceptual content, a willingness to experiment, sensitivity to type and the creation of original imagery.

Local GDC Fellow Matt Warburton accepted two awards on behalf of his company Emboubleyu Design. In addition, Ion Design, the partnership of GDC Fellow David Coates and current GDC National VP of Communications Rod Roodenburg, picked up an award for their GDC 50th Anniversary postage stamp.

At the close of the ceremony, after a moving summary by Ze Frank incorporating the idea of ‘Design as Hope’, BC Chapter President Mark Busse announced his belief to Louis Gagnon of Paprika that designers in BC will rise to the challenge of the high standards set by Quebecois entries, and his hope that the 2010 Graphex Awards will see more BC designers on the podium.

The three video interviews capturing the thoughts of the international judging panel that were shown during the Awards Ceremony can be viewed at: www.video.ca.
