First 50, Next 50

Members from nearly 30 countries across the globe participated in the General Assembly, casting votes to ratify historic decisions.  The General Assembly was preceded by 1-day special sessions, in which the 2011-2013 Board representatives and Icograda members openly discussed their vision for the future of Icograda.  The sessions were a dynamic platform for member-to-member interaction and proved to be a productive avenue of member engagement.

The General Assembly ratified several significant decisions and strategic proposals that will shape Icograda’s future.  By a strong majority vote, delegates adopted a new membership landscape and fee structure that will prove more equitable across different membership categories; the establishment of platforms with category-specific value propositions and increased membership engagement; and an integrated, multi-disciplinary membership proposal, which will more accurately reflect the current multi-disciplinary nature of Icograda members.  These changes position Icograda to better offer tangible benefits and be responsive to the increasingly inter-disciplinary needs of 21st Century designers – both individually and collectively.

The newly established membership platforms will meet in events scheduled in August 2014 in Hong Kong and in October 2014 in New York City.

The Icograda GA expressed support for long-term continuation of the IDA, pending acceptance of Bylaw change and implementation of reform proposals, and, in any case, unanimously supported the continued participation of the Council in the 2015 Gwangju Congress.

On the second day of the General Assembly the delegates heard an address from Jean-François Lisée, Minister of International Relations, La Francophonie and External Trade, and unanimously authorized the Board to move forward with extending the Montreal Host City Agreement for the Icograda Secretariat and approved the bid to partake in the 2017 World Summit and Congress of Architecture + Design + Planning.

??The Icograda Executive Board will next meet in Montréal, Canada in early 2014.
