Ljubljana (Slovenia) - BIO 19* has announced the winners of its industrial design competition. The 19th Biennial of Industrial Design promotes and exhibits current trends in contemporary industrial design from Slovenia and around the world, with special emphasis on design solutions for daily living. An international jury chose the winning works from a diverse range of entries submitted under three categories: Products; Information Functional Systems, Corporate Identity Programmes; and Design Projects. The exhibition for BIO 19 opened on 15 September 2004 and will be held until 15 October 2004 at the Architectural Museum of Ljubljana in Slovenia.

"Here at one of the crossroads of Europe, the BIO has once again shown itself to be a significant event in the design calendar." Reported Stephen Hitchins (BEDA) Great Britain, Chairman of the BIO 19 Jury. "Europe's design industry not only makes a vital cultural and economic contribution at home but can also set a new direction for manufacturers and business around the world."

Continues Hitchins: "This exhibition is rich in diversity, displaying a wide range of projects that combine social awareness with responsible design, 'design for all,' to commercial products and corporate identity. It displays an attitude to design that is not just design, touching issues of sustainability, waste, recycling and ecology, public awareness - a whole series of issues that show how design can have an impact, both socially and economically."

The winners of the 19th Biennial of Industrial Design were selected by the BIO 19 Jury comprising: Stephen Hitchins (BEDA) Great Britain; Aldo Cibic, Italy; Robin Edman (ICSID) Sweden; Czeslawa Frejlich, Poland; and Ruth Klotzel (Icograda) Brazil. Exhibited works will be published in the BIO 19 catalogue. BIO 19 is presented by the BIO Organising Committee in collaboration with the Architectural Museum of Ljubljana and the Designers' Society of Slovenia (DOS), and is endorsed by Icograda.*
